Spiritual Parenting Concepts For Your Family’s Communication

Remember spiritual parenting is about, working alongside God, to nurture an inward transformation of the heart.

You may hear:

I don’t believe that!

I am mad at Jesus.

I hate ____________________.

I don’t feel anything when I try to pray.

Don’t panic!
Remember God is in this with you.
Change your end goal while trying to communicate from fixing an immediate problem to hearing from one another about what they are experiencing and feeling, and responding to one another.
It is not about you changing your child’s heart, God does the transformation, not you.

When we talk about laying down our lives for the work Jesus has given us, parenting is a part of our life we must surrender to as well.  Like Jesus, we need to be ready to sacrifice ourselves in ways we may not have thought of.

Spiritual Question: Consider whether you have untangled your identity from the child(ren) you are parenting.

1 John 1:3 – See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

Ephesians 1:5 – In love, he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will,

“Your identity is as a child of God before you are a parent. Nothing can take that away for you, nothing your children do, or don’t do. Our feelings about the potential judgment of our parenting can affect our parenting choices. We must rest in the knowledge God is on our side no matter what others may say”

Holy Listening Stones: Here is a special tool for children and even teens to use to communicate their soul’s desires or struggles.

Telling Your Story.

In the future, when your son (or daughter) asks you, “What is the meaning of the stipulations, decrees, and laws the Lord our God has commanded you?” 21 tell him: “We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand. 22 Before our eyes the Lord sent signs and wonders—great and terrible—on Egypt and Pharaoh and his whole household. 23 But he brought us out from there to bring us in and give us the land he promised on oath to our ancestors.  Deuteronomy 6:20-23

  • Without glorifying sin, tell your story of coming to know Jesus.
    • Before I knew Jesus…. After I knew Jesus…
  • Can you have a personal story of how God spoke to you personally right now or in the past, with each scripture you look at together or a Sunday message or Bible story you read?
